Building muscles – If you are expecting growth in muscle then you need to choose the best protein powder which has a high biological value; which tells you how the body will be able to absorb and use the protein. Whey isolates or whey proteins would be the best way to go.

Losing weight – If you are looking at losing weight, you need to select shakes which have no added sugars or other dextrins or maltodextrins. Please do not select any with added BCAA’s or branched chain amino acids.

For vegans or vegetarians – If you are a vegan or a vegetarian, do not choose any kind of protein shakes which are milk based. A better choice would be to go for complete plant proteins.

For Diabetics –Those of who you have diabetes, you should select protein shakes which have no added sugars. It would also be a good idea to take something that is low in carbohydrates; say something lesser than 5 g every serving.

Patients with kidney diseases – Patients who have kidney disease need to choose powders which have very low protein content say about 10 or 15 g per serving. They will not be able to tolerate too much protein at a go.

Gastro problems – Those who have any kind of gastrointestinal problem; are lactose intolerant or have irritable bowel syndrome – they need to select powders which do not have lactose sugars, dextrins or maltodextrins or any kind of artificial sweeteners.
